Champions League: The final day of the group stage

The Champions League Group stage is over, let’s take a look at the outcome, the surprises, the best goals of the final day and which teams qualified to the “last 16” stage.

Group A

Bayern continued their dominance with a 2-0 over Lokomotiv Moscow, while Atlético finished second in this goroup after winning 2-0 away against Salzburg, who moved to the Europa League. The gorup didn’t end up in any surprise anyway.

Group B

Inter will continue their season domesitcally only, as they finished their last game against Shkahtar in a 0-0 draw. This is definetely caused by their extremely slow start in this group and Conte have some big questions to answer in the coming days as he will be under fire. Will he continue as Inter coach? We will see. Real Madrid saved their season, for now, and defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 to end up on top of the group, Gladbach second, while Shakhtar moved to the Europa League.

Group C

City won 3-0 against Marseille, Porto 2-0 against Olympiakos in two easy games to end up City first, Porto second, while the Greeks moved to the Europa League.

Group D

Liverpool ended the group stage with a 1-1 draw against Midtjylland, a game in which Klopp fielded some youngsters! On the other hand, in Amsterdam, Atalanta won 1-0 against Ajax, to finish the group in second place, while Ajax moved to the Europa League.

Group E

Chelsea ended up in the first place after drawing 1-1 with Krasnodar who qualified to the Europa league, while Sevilla won 3-1 against Rennes.

Group F

Dortmund defeated Zenit in Russia 2-1, while Lazio drew 2-2 against a fighting Brugge who could’ve scored the winner in the last minutes of the game. Dortmund ended first, Lazio second, while Brugge moved to Europa League.

Group G

Juventus went back to Italy with a 3-0 over Barcelona at Camp Nou, not only to revenge their defeat 2-0 in Italy but also to finish first in this group, while Barca continued their poor form and ended up second. Pirlo’s team will gain much confidence after this game and this could be a turning point in their season. Kyiv defeated Ferencváros 1-0 and qualified to the Europa League.

Group H

Leipzig pressed hard on Manchester United and scored 3 goals, only to see United trying to come back, but could only score 2 goals to end the match in a defeat which meant that they will continue their European season in the Europa League. United’s fans, don’t tell me you didn’t see this coming! PSG defeated the Turkish team 5-1 to end up in the first place.

Teams which qualified in the second place:

Atlético Madrid, Monchengladbach, Porto, Atalanta, Sevilla, Lazio, Barcelona, Leipzig

The draw will take place on December 14.
